NURTURING MOTHERS MENTOR
First and foremost, a Nurturing Mothers Mentor (NMM) is an experienced mother who respects the autonomy and wisdom of mothers who have been doing this for millenia.

​They have a thorough understanding of the systemic barriers to breastfeeding in Australia and support a mother navigating these barriers.
​
Mentors are trained volunteers who have resources and strategies to work with mothers experiencing breastfeeding difficulties.

What does she do?

Works with mothers to manage breastfeeding challenges.

Facilitates gatherings where mothers can come together to discuss mothering, breastfeeding and nurturing.
​

Facilitates antenatal preparation either individually or in a structured class.
​

Refers mothers for ongoing assistance if needed using relevant resources.
​

Supports other mentors in their role, ensuring each mentor has the resources and support to mentor other mothers.
​

Works within the framework of the guiding documents and ethical principles.

Uses positive language as described in the language guide when talking to mothers in her mentor role.​
